DRAGONFLIES AND HUMMINGBIRDS
Dragonflies and hummingbirds
Transmigrating troubadours
Where our dear departed left their hearts to us one day
They flit and float in fleeting flight
And all too quickly fade from sight
If they stayed any longer they would lose their allure
But they can bring back precious mem’ries when our lives feel unsure
Dragonflies and hummingbirds
Venerable vagabonds
Calling no undue attention to their majesty
Diminutive yet dignified
A portal to the other side
Reminding us we don’t have lots of time on this earth
And yet our souls continue on forever, bringing rebirth
Spiritually, I’m not inclined
I’ve long seen death as undefined
Religion’s always left me blinded or drowning in doubt
But bird and fly came, that was when
We got to see our kin again
And without question I knew then just what faith was about
Dragonflies and hummingbirds
Beacons of beatitude
Turning bitter grief into belief in miracles
It’s never not a joy to see
Their iridescent imagery
A light from the beyond to soothe the sorrow and strife
And give perspective on our place within the circle of life
Yes, dragonflies and hummingbirds
Have through the years become the words
For proof and prayer and paradise and peace
